Congratulations, good sir! Putting together a promotion packet is as arduous and time-consuming as writing a full article from start to finish. I do imagine you welcomed the opportunity to work on it, and to think about other things besides cancer.
If they've made significant advances in the art, taught generations of new senior practitioners, and can prove an international reputation, and all of this was verified by a senior board - then who am I to say they shouldn't use that title in martial arts in the same way we do in academia.
If they're just awarding the title to big themselves up, then no, I'm not a fan.
I couldn’t be more happier for you. What a journey.
An aside - Australia (Macquarie Uni 30 years ago) Lecturer - Senior Lecturer - Assistant Professor - Professor.
There is one “higher” - Emeritus Professor (it’s a “job” title but an award for academic excellence over a long time).
Emeritus actually normally means "they've retired, but they were so good we're not really letting them leave".

Congratulations professor! I'm curious as to your thoughts on BJJ instructors using the title professor?
Thanks Phil
